"I am larger, better than I thought; I did not know I held so much goodness"
We are a Catholic School established in 1850, staffed by the Sisters of Charity of St. Elizabeth and a certified lay faculty. Assumption School is the second oldest Catholic School in the Paterson Diocese.
We provide comprehensive studies for grades Pre-K through eight utilizing up-to-date teaching methods and technology. Spiritual development and extracurricular activities are a part of the everyday school experience.
Our philosophy, based on this quotation from Walt Whitman, "I am larger, better than I thought; I did not know I held so much goodness", hangs proudly on the entrance wall of Assumption School. We believe it greets all who enter with acceptance and faith in their own unique gifts.
Mission
The mission of Assumption School is to provide students with both the educational tools and spiritual values they will need to become productive, morally mature members of society. Our mission includes providing a quality education based on a comprehensive curriculum that is enhanced by spiritual, social and cultural experiences.
Assumption School is a celebration of message, community and service. We share with our children a life-giving cycle of mutual giving and receiving. We share a respect, a responsibility and a moral obligation with the parents in allowing the children to say, "I am larger, better than I thought; I did not know I held so much goodness". (Whitman)
