Founded in 1987, The American International School in Cyprus is a private, coeducational, college preparatory day school. We are proud to provide a first class American and international university preparatory education within the Cyprus local community that incorporates a solid native language program for our Cypriot students. AISC serves a unique function in the Cyprus community, offering the only American system program in Cyprus while providing our students with the option of the International Baccalaureate program for the last two years of secondary school.
Facilities
Our campus is a lovely, green tree-filled oasis in the Acropolis area of Nicosia.
We boast an area of four acres that includes our school buildings, open courts
facilities and a large swimming pool. Outdoor sitting areas for students are
arranged among flowers and flowering shrubs providing a pleasant environment
for students to enjoy. The school operates a full service cafeteria offering
hot meals for students and staff and a well stocked library and internet services
administered by a full time librarian on staff. Small theater, covered play
areas, a weight training area and primary-age playground complete the facilities.
Student Body
AISC students hale from up to 40 countries, while fully 30% of our student
body are Cypriot students. The school provides a complete and lengthy day of
lessons from 8:15am to 3pm with a wide variety of school sponsored extracurricular
activities offered after school hours and most students take part in one or
many of these activities that range from sports, to arts, to academic clubs.
Classes and Teachers
Small classes ensure individual attention from teachers and AISC boasts an
average class size of 12 students. Teachers are well qualified with many having
advanced degrees and North American teaching certification. Each year the school
recruits qualified teachers from the USA, Canada and the UK. Teachers with experience
and training in American system education and the International Baccalaureate
are given preference in hiring.
Accreditation and Affiliation
As a true American international school, AISC is accredited by the Middle
States Association of Colleges and Schools, Philadelphia, USA. MSA accreditation
requires and ensures that our programs and services meet United States standards
and that our students' academic work is accepted by American and international
universities and schools. Our programs are approved by the Cyprus Ministry of
Education and we are members of the European Council of International Schools
(ECIS) and the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) which approves
us to offer the IB Program to our students. For the further benefit and enrichment
of our students, we belong to two activities conferences the Eastern Mediterranean
Activities Conference (EMAC) and the International Schools Activities Conference
(ISAC). Membership in these international activities conferences allows our
students to travel to regional schools to participate in sports, arts, and academic
activities.
